The Application of Spatial Sound Field ANC in TWS Earphones

On December 8, the "3rd Wearable Health Monitoring Industry Summit " technology summit, organized by Xuri Big Data, was successfully held at the Shenzhen Shentie Crowne Plaza Hotel.

AncSonic was invited to share insights on "The Application of Spatial Sound Field ANC in TWS Earphones," explaining the concept of spatial sound field ANC and its advantages in TWS earphone applications.

Spatial sound field ANC refers to noise reduction in open space noise fields to lower noise levels in three-dimensional spaces. This is achieved by actively reducing noise in areas centered around the human head's auditory range, allowing users to experience quietness and comfort without wearing earphones or noise-canceling devices.

Currently, only five companies globally possess spatial sound field ANC technology, with AncSonic being one of them. AncSonic holds unique advantages in high-frequency technical specifications. Due to algorithmic constraints, the other four companies primarily address low-frequency scenarios below 1000Hz, while AncSonic has elevated its technical ceiling to 4000Hz.

TWS earphones are becoming a new lifestyle accessory, often humorously referred to as the second external "organ" after smartphones. Users expect TWS earphones to provide very comfortable ANC features. This is precisely where AncSonic excels, having assembled a complete team from ID design and structural stacking to hardware and software testing, integrating leading technologies like spatial sound field ANC into the TWS domain.

AncSonic illustrated the advantages of spatial sound field ANC using two self-developed earphone models. The ANC algorithm calculates in real-time within AncSonic's TWS earphones, with a noise reduction frequency bandwidth coverage extending to 4000Hz, notably encompassing the vocal frequency range, significantly enhancing the experience of voice noise cancellation.

The yellow curve in the diagram represents the sound curve when a user talks without wearing earphones, while the blue curve indicates the sound curve when using AncSonic's earphones. The proximity of the yellow and blue curves suggests that users perceive their own voice while wearing AncSonic's earphones similarly to when they aren't wearing any.

Ultimately, whether through improved suppression of voice via algorithms or transparent transmission of real voice, AncSonic aims to make ANC truly effective while providing a greater sense of comfort. The company hopes users can wear their earphones to activate ANC, isolating them from external disturbances; yet when users wish to communicate, their earphones serve as an excellent medium for connecting to the world.

AncSonic recognizes that in-ear earphones enhance ANC through a more sealed design, but this can be uncomfortable for users with sensitive ear canals, often forcing them to choose between comfort and ANC.

To address this, AncSonic has developed semi-in-ear ANC TWS earphones. These earphones are lightweight and feature ergonomic simulation designs, having undergone thousands of 3D ear mold tests during development to meet the majority of user comfort needs. Most importantly, they achieve a noise reduction effect of 20dB(A) (with a noise reduction depth of 30-35dB), effectively meeting users' daily commuting and noisy environment needs, truly balancing comfort and ANC.

To meet more user demands and enhance comfort, AncSonic is also developing fully open, non-in-ear ANC TWS earphones, expected to launch in February next year.

Building on their capabilities in spatial sound field control and ANC, AncSonic is also developing earphones with additional features, such as karaoke earphones with reverb, assistive listening earphones, and earphones with return sound functionality. Furthermore, AncSonic has accumulated experience in spatial audio and directional pickup algorithms, which are expected to be applied in TWS earphones soon.

As a new force in the TWS earphone sector, AncSonic has gained recognition from TWS brands and the public for its strong algorithmic capabilities and comprehensive strength. At the 2021 Global Trendy Electronics Industry Leadership Conference, known as the "Forbes of trendy electronics," AncSonic was awarded the "Trend Electronics Excellence Award."

Looking ahead, AncSonic will continue to safeguard TWS brands and expand new frontiers in smart earphones.
